Sunbelx is a specialized supermarket with grocery, butcher, and fish stores gathering together. We can recommend seasonal products, how to select the product, and the best way to eat them. Customers can surely enjoy the conversation, shopping experience as well as the food. Even though Japanese food culture has largely changed, we will keep on with it by studying hard on specialized knowledge and technology.

―――Please tell us about how you brought Teachme Biz in.

We were trying to create manuals using Office software many times before but it did not work out very well. So we did not really have manuals back then. The main reasons were because updating the manuals was too complicated. Also, a lot of work were hard to put into words or in papers. But with Teachme Biz, we can create manuals by using photos and videos, so I felt that it would be easy to make a manual. And the people in charge as well as management team both shared the same thought. So, we decided to bring in Teachme Biz right away. 

There are largely 3 purposes of using Teachme Biz. To reduce the gap between shop’s differences which started to get bigger and bigger along with the increasing branches. To standardize the work instead of doing things separately in their own way. To improve the work environment in accordance with company’s trend of “innovating the way we work”. We started the project throughout the whole company since September 2018 to achieve the goals.

―――How did you create the manuals? 

In the past, when we required a manual, we would use a camera to take photos and videos then used another software for editing. It took more than a day to finish a 5-minute manual. But since Teachme Biz can edit while shooting, we only needed 30 minutes and we were done. Even the beginner can create the manual easily. This allowed us to complete the goal of making 230 manuals effortlessly. 

We managed to keep project members motivated. Thanks to Teachme Biz for helping us reduce so much workload of making manuals.

―――What kind of manuals do you have? 

It is different depending on the field. We use manuals throughout all the sections covering from fruits and vegetables, processed meat, fresh fish, cooked dishes, grocery, and cashier etc. 

The section that uses manuals the most is grocery. For example, they can check in advance when they should put the sauce onto the grilled chicken etc., So even the first-time cooker can grill chicken like a pro. 

Apart from that, we have so many kinds of lunch boxes. The food and pickled vegetables, the amount and position of the green leaf divider sheet (Baran) are already fixed. Even new staff can do it on their own by checking the photos and videos in advance. 

Able to adjust sales counter to match the market condition by sending out tasks. 

―――How was the result after using Teachme Biz?

The selling situation of supermarket can transform completely due to the change in temperature, season, and the fluctuation of market price etc. However, we do not have a person in charge who can make decisions at all shops. But we can ensure a consistency in action by getting supervisors to send out tasks to all shops instead.It assists young managers who still struggle in making decisions on their own, which helps minimising the gap between shops. 

Also, if there is something staff do not understand etc., sometimes they do not want to bother others with their questions. But with Teachme Biz, it is easy to check and learn about what they want to know on their own. Moreover, they can even check the manuals while commuting to work, which is very convenient.

―――We heard that you have many exchange students. How is it with them?

4 years ago we had Vietnamese staff in the HR department. Back then we did not have Teachme Biz yet. We had to translate paper manuals and handed them to Vietnamese part-time workers at each shop. But there were too many things to remember. Also, due to the language barrier, Japanese staff suffered a lot when teaching Vietnamese staff. And since Vietnamese staff needed advice from Japanese team all the time, Japanese team always had to run around to support all the branches.

Teachme Biz allows staff to understand each work procedure easily with photos and videos. Vietnamese part-time workers can remember work procedures by just looking at the photos and videos. It is also simple to read. The combination of photos and videos is a great solution to solve the language issue, especially when we have to depend completely on Vietnamese staff.

―――What is your plan for using Teachme Biz from now on?

For our company, Teachme Biz is a long-awaited tool that we finally got to know. It is definitely an excellent tool for me, for part-time workers, interns from Vietnam, exchange students, and new staff etc.

Frankly speaking, I feel that Teachme Biz is not yet fully utilized. But recently we are encouraging people within the company to use Teachme Biz more. 

I will use Teachme Biz more actively and efficiently so that staff can work easily and be able to learn the job in a fun way. Then, the improvement in productivity will allow staff to have more time to interact with customers and allow us to become a company that can contribute to the local society.
